2025 Canberra Young Citizen of the Year Awards

Information before you start

The Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Awards (the Awards) is an annual celebration, established in 1989, that recognises the outstanding contributions of individuals and groups of young people aged 12 to 25 years in the ACT.

The Awards honour those who have made a meaningful impact through personal achievement or active involvement in areas such as community service, sport, education, science, culture, the arts or environmental sustainability.

The Awards also celebrate exceptional personal achievements by individual young people who have shown determination, resilience or leadership in their own lives.

Nominations are invited across the below award categories:

  • Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Award
  • Young Achiever Award
  • Personal Achievement Award
  • Environment and Sustainability Award
  • Group Achievement Award
  • Arts and Multimedia Award

The Awards are supported by the ACT Government and our sponsors, who are committed to recognising the talents and contributions of young people from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences. 

Nominations close: Wednesday 10 September 2025

HOW TO NOMINATE

  • All nominations must be submitted online through this SmartyGrants form. 
  • You can nominate one person, group, or organisation at a time. 
  • Individuals, groups and organisations can nominate themselves or others for an award. 

Note: Incomplete forms cannot be submitted. SmartyGrants will prompt you to complete missing fields before proceeding.

ASSISTANCE AND SUPPORT

If you have any questions or need help accessing or completing the nomination form, the Office for Youth Engagement team is here to assist you. 

ASSESSMENT

The Office for Youth Engagement will convene an independent selection panel to assess all nominations. The panel will include:

  • A sponsor representative for that award category,
  • An Office for Youth Engagement representative,
  • An ACT Government representative.

Nominations will be assessed based on the quality of responses provided in the application and any supporting documentation. Reference checks will be conducted for shortlisted nominees.

The 2025 Young Canberra Citizen of the Year Awards will be presented by the Minister for Children, Youth and Families at a formal awards ceremony on Friday 7 November 2025.
